Do you have a role model? Do you even know what a role model is? Well if you don’t I will be explaining to you what an role model is. A role model is a person you may look up to. Well it’s as if you are getting inspired be a real big person you look up too. They don’t have to be a big famous singer, they could even be your aunty’s, your cousins, or even your next door neighbour.

The definition of a role-model is when you get inspired by someone and you want to be like them. My personal role model would have to be my great - grandfather. He inspires me to work hard and finish strong. He also is a very special person to me and is always loving, caring and sharing.

Do you want a role model? Well, let’s start off! Say you have a favourite hobby like...basketball and you would want to be a great basketball player when you grow up so you look up to that person. For Example : Stephen Curry. I think he’s a really good basketball player and also is a very good shooter.

Do you want to become a role model? Well follow these steps; Well one really good thing is to be good, respectful and kind towards others to spread kindness, so that others can follow along and be a person being inspired by you one day.

Now you know some great tips on how you can be a good role model and how you and others can be and choose a role model, you can share this with others!

Mitchell - Musical Madness ( Reflection ) - Extension

Hey Bloggers! Here is my reflection this term for our projects based on Musical Madness! :

This term this term/school wide focus was “ Musical Madness “. The term was all about creating music, playing music, and using music throughout our school work. Well, this term the Yr 7 & 8 Extension Group had the opportunity to create our very own band in groups of 4. My group concluded of Simon, Kyron, Noah and myself.

We first had to pick a genre to match the music we were going to be creating. My group chose the genre “ Rap “ and also everyone agreed to make/create and research for the genre, planning, lyrics and music beats. We decided to pick a few bits and pieces from our favourite rap songs and mix it all together to make a great masterpiece.

So then we started! Every wednesday we would make progress into our projects. Adding text to lyrics, research and planning. For our planning we had to plan what kind of lyrics we were going to make, research history about and where rap started, we had to also make beats/music for our track.

The most difficult part I found was creating the lyrics. Everytime we rapped the lyrics with the music it was always not right in time or the beat was just too fast. In the end, the solution was to change up the beat slower and in time, and to mix up and change a few lyrics so it was easier to read.

The most challenging part was creating the research. I surfed the internet for so many different facts and history about rap! It was very challenging because I had to find pictures of rappers, I had to find out specific dates for example: when rap was created and heaps more about the history of rap.

Another challenging project in the process was the scratch and coding process. We had to get out different kinds of sources such as play-dough, aluminum foil, small pieces of cardboard, tape and paper cups to create an energy source for our scratch game. We also had to get some coding pieces of music from “Scratch” to create a similar beat to ours on Garageband.

Speaking of garageband we created our beats/music on garageband using different kinds of instruments such as electric guitar, piano, drums and electric techno beats all provided from Garageband. In the end we made up a cool, funky beat for our project!
It was a really fun experience.

I think one thing we had to work on was focusing and spending time on our work alone!

Last term our school focus was “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Well our Year 7 & 8 extension group with Zoe from OMG Tech, decided to make some Makey Makey projects. We had the choice to choose to make a Game Show, A Musical Band, or make a game for disabled people. Our group - ( Me, Simon, Noah, and Kyron) decided to attempt to make a mini game show using Scratch and Makey Makey. So we started! We started to get stuff ready out of the suitcase that Zoe had bought with supplies.

We logged onto Scratch using our own accounts and started to make a mini scratch game. I made the title, the slides, and the questions for the game. I
left for a few weeks, and when I came back they built the Makey Makey layout, the cardboard was set up and also their was play-dough too, so we were already to go! We named the game show with our initials - MNSK Game Show and had different questions. The questions were very simple and easy to think of for our game.

We got given a booklet which had instructions and simple steps on how to make a game show with Scratch also using Makey-Makey. It had steps which showed us how to make a simple quiz game, how to code it and what kind of questions. The questions asked on the game show were : What was the capital of Turkey, What is the most spoken language in the world and a lot more interesting questions. Our questions were also based on things that were currently happening in the world.

The cardboard bits and pieces were wrapped with metal aluminium foil so it gave a better effect for the electricity circuit to work with the buzzers. The others made a small compact buzzer using some play-dough and shaped it liked a buzzer. They connected it with makey-makey wires and also had an earth to beep the buzzer. We chose the sound effects for an buzzer and played it when the buzzer was triggered. We had them hold the earth cords in their hand.
