Mitchell - Extension ( Doctors ) 2018

Hey Bloggers! Last term the Yr 7 & 8 Extension group were asked to choose groups and research about how pollution can affect the human body and the environment. Our group were the Doctors and had to research how pollution affects the human body.

We also created a small mini movie to show how this can affect parts of your body including an interview with our school nurse and mini animations we created on our Hyperstudio Stacks.

Summer Learning Journey - Day #20 : Looking into the Future

Hey bloggers! Today is Day #20 of the Summer Learning Journey and also is the first day of school! Let's Begin!

Activity 1 : Your Future Self

It may be hard to imagine, but one day you will graduate from high school and it will be time to decide what to do next. You may want to study at university, become an apprentice, go to training college, travel, or start working. There are so many options!

I have been asked to take a minute to think about my future. What would I do when I finish school? Would I like to study? When I finish school I would either like to be an Flight Attendant, Travel Blogger, or an Movie Director or even a Movie Maker! I also plan to move to my family overseas in Hawaii or Seattle.

Activity 2 : Flying Cars

Let’s imagine that you’ve just learned to drive, and your family has decided to buy you a brand new car. You are allowed to choose from any of the following designs:

On my blog I have been asked to choose one car and why? I would choose the White Flyng Car. I would pick it because it's a nice model, it flies, it's a nice white colour, and you could transport places faster.

Bonus Activity : Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner!

There is a new movie out in cinemas at the moment called Blade Runner 2049.

It is a movie about what the world will be like in the future. Imagine that you able to travel through time and that you can see what the world will look like in 2099.

I have been asked to write an description about what I think

New Zealand might look like in 80 - 90 years from now.

I already see New Zealand, also my hometown Glen Innes already changing. New Houses, New People, New Buildings, New Job Opportunities and people have to move out. It's really sad. Even my great - grandparents have to move back to Fiji in June, it's ther choice.

I see New Zealand with really nice houses, nice cars, a lot of people, new ethnic groups, and heaps more!

Summer Learning Journey - Day #19 : Contemporary Entertainment

Hey Bloggers! Today is Day #19 of the Summer Learning Journey. I've been so busy with travels down to Rotorua and so much more! Let's Begin!

Activity 1 : Moana

In late 2016, the movie Moana was released by Disney. It’s a beautiful story about a young Polynesian girl from the fictional island of Motunui, who goes on a big adventure.

I have been asked to watch the Disney Movie Trailer for " Moana " and then write a summary! I have seen the movie, I can include my favourite part! I also can tell you as much as I can about the movie.

Here are my answers!

What is the movie about? The movie is about a young girl named Moana who lives in the islands of polynesia, on her island Motunui and her mission is to find the demi-god Maui to get him to restore the heart of a island named Te Fiti.

Who are the main characters? The main characters are Moana, Maui, and Hei-Hei her ( Pet Chicken ).

Where do they go? They travel around and across the South Pacific Ocean to restore the heart of Te - Fiti.

Activity 2 : Country Calendar

Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.

I have been asked to watch a video by Country Calendar. It's basically a show about the Country and farming. Here are some questions:

What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? I think the most interesting/challenging about being a farmer is transporting around the farm. It would be really annoying and stressful!

Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. No.

Why/why not? Well I wouldn't want to do so much challenging stuff.

Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

Bonus Activity : Singing a Different Tune

Summer Learning Journey - Day #16 : Turn of the Century

Activity 1  : Celebrating a Win

In 2000, the country of New Zealand celebrated when Russell Coutts and his sailing team won their second straight America’s Cup. This was the first time that a team from New Zealand had won back-to-back championships! Many people celebrated the victory with their friends and family.

On my blog I have been asked to tell you what me and my family do to celebrate a special event. Well sometimes we like to gout to restaurants for dinner and desert or we have a small party at our house. We normally decorate the table with lollies, food, drinks and more!

Activity 2 : Lord of the Rings

New Zealand Money!

Arguably one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time, The Lord of the Rings, was filmed in New Zealand. All three movies were directed by a New Zealander named Peter Jackson. The first movie was released in 2001, the second in 2002 and the third in 2003. The movies cost an estimated $300 million to produce!  

Instead of keeping the money Peter Jackson decided to give all the money to me. I have been asked to tell my blog what I would with the money.

• First I would give some to my family! Buy a House, Food ( etc.
• Second I donate some to charity for families to buy food, a house, education supplies and more.
• I would give as much people money just off the street for free!
• Keep the rest and maybe spend it on stuff I would want.
• Maybe some to my friends!

Bonus Activity : The Rise of the " Selfie "

Although most of you are quite familiar with the idea of taking a ‘selfie’ (picture of ourselves), this was not always the case. In fact, it wasn’t until the early 2000s that people started talking about the idea of a selfie, taking selfies and posting them online.

In honour of the rise in popularity of the ‘selfie,’ I have been asked to take a selfie of myself doing something I really like to do such as an hobby!

Summer Learning Journey - Day #15 : Maintaining the Status Quo

Hey bloggers! Today is Day #15 of the Summer Learning Journey Blogging Programme. Let's Begin!

Activity 1 : Hiking Tongariro

In 1990, one of the largest national parks in New Zealand, Tongariro, was listed as a World Heritage Site. It is a truly spectacular place to visit! Thousands of people go to Tongariro every year and hike the Tongariro Crossing. Visit the Tongariro website to learn more about the one-day hike.

I have been asked what would I pack if I were going to hike the Tongariro Crossing. I have to write a list of 5 items I would bring! What would I bring?

• Water - I would pack multiple water bottles on a very hot sunny day
• Snacks - I would also pack snacks such as : Sandwiches, Fruit and more.
• First Aid Kit -In case of an emergency I would bring one.
• Map - If I got lost during the hike I would use it if I didn't know where to go.
• Pocket Knife - I would use maybe for self defense

In the 1990s, four different individuals served as the Prime Minister of New Zealand – Geoffrey Palmer, Mike Moore, Jim Bolger and Jenny Shipley.

I have been asked to create a short profile for one of our former prime ministers. I have to include a picture and some information all ready provided. Here's mine:

Bonus Activity : You Have to Pay to Play

In 1990, for the first time in New Zealand’s history, universities and polytechnics started charging students money to go to school. Prior to then, it had been free to go to university or to a polytechnic. Since 1990, students have had to pay thousands of dollars to attend post-secondary (after high school) education.

The new Labour government have promised to give up to three years of free post-secondary education to all New Zealanders by 2020!

I have been asked to tell you about what I think about this. I think this is a good choice but they should put the prices lower. People also have to also pay for rent, bills, taxes. I don't think this is fair.

Summer Learning Journey - Day #14 : Perms and Lycra

Hey bloggers! Today is Day #14 of the Summer Learning Journey. I had really fun today going to the pools! Anyways, Let's Begin!

Activity 1 : Hairy Maclary

One of the most famous children’s stories to ever come out of New Zealand, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, was written by a kiwi woman named Lynley Dodd. The book was originally published in 1983. It is now sold in dozens of countries around the world. It features a small dog named Hairy.

I have been asked to carry on a story about Hairy Maclary using 8 - 10 sentences written by me to earn full points.

Here it is :

“Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy…”

galloping on the concrete made sidewalk with his paws surrounded with fury fluffy dog hair, bushy leaves blowing with the cool breezy wind with the golden summery sun shining on him making a dark as night. "sniff sniff" goes his nose smelling something delicious! He gallops closer to the smell as the aroma starts to get stronger. He finally gets to his destination showing up to a white picket gate. He get's confused as he doesn't see any food. But he then walks over further to the other side of the gate and can see a metal BBQ exposing the food, but he sees no-one. He then sees a small hole in the corner, climbs through, runs to the BBQ so he doesn't get caught, jumps up and bites into a big juicy piece of steak. He's so happy, he gallops back to the dairy as he eats and chews his steak. Walks into the dairy and gets a good rest.

That was my story!

Activity 2 : The Big ' OE '

In the 1980s it became increasingly common for students to graduate from high school and take a year off to travel and experience the world. This year was often referred to as the ‘Big OE’ or ‘Big Overseas Experience.’ A number of kiwis headed to places like Australia and England to live and work before returning to New Zealand to finish their studies.

I have been asked to imagine I was high school student in the 1980's and i'm about to graduate. I also have to tell you on my blog which country I would choose to visit and list 3 reasons I would travel there.

3 reasons why I would visit Hawaii :

• Culture : I love the Hawaiian Culture and how they have such an amazing language, lovely people, beautiful islands and creative and unique dances such as Hula.
• Nature : I also am in love with the beautiful islands of Hawaii. I loved swimming with green turtles in a lagoon, sitting under a coconut tree and more!
• Food : I love Hawaiian Food especially my favourite Musubi's a Japanese - Hawaiian mixed snack which I love! Also I love their tropical smoothies.

In 1982, Te Karere, a Māori-language news show premiered on television. It has continued to stream live on TV to this day. If you would like to watch it, turn on TV One at 3:55 p.m. each weekday and you will see it. The show is often hosted by a man named Scotty Morrison.

I have been asked to imagine if I were Scotty Morrison and choose someone I would like to interview . Who would I choose and why?

I would choose to interview Lorde the worldwide pop singer. I choose her because she is a singer and I would ask her questions such as : Why did you start your music carrer, and why choose music?
