Student Blog Prompts - Astria Game

Hey Bloggers! Today in Extension Class we had played a new game created called the "Astria Game".  Our task was to complete certain levels to obtain documents to complete the game. We had to blog about some of the blog posts that they have given us.

Blog #1 - A student in another school has recently blogged that:
“Students don’t learn much playing this game called Astria – Countdown to Impact: Their time could be better spent doing other things”.
Do you agree, disagree or partly agree/disagree?
Blog about what you think using evidence from the game to backup your views.

With this statement I partly agree. I think that this game is only based on targeting a certain audience not a whole mass. I think they could improve this game by making it a little less complex and more entertaining.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With increasing online and digital content, it is difficult to know real information from 'fake news'. Using evidence from the game you played (Astria: Countdown to Impact) write a blog to list the top 5 things you think people should watch out for to help identify fake news.
(* no story spoilers please!)

1. Sources that do not use complex language
2. Sources provided by characters who aren't experts on that factor
3. Fake News could be from sources you personally think that are not trustworthy
4. News could be fake if you identify unusual information
5. Irrelevant Information

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a scale of 1-5, how successfully did you problem solve with your partner today?
Please include any ways you would collaborate differently with them next time you play.

I would rate the scale an 3. We both quite weren't interested at first but after playing for quite an while we found it quite interesting. That was our/my opinion.

Artist - Art Explanation (Lady Pink)

Hey Bloggers! Today we had to pack an artist and explain 3 elements of art in one of their paintings. I have chosen Lady Pink. Lady Pink uses the elements of shape, color and texture in her paintings.

Image result for graffiti artist lady pink
Lady Pink's Art!
She uses the element of shape because she creates Graffiti Art on walls and shape is a popular use of element in Graffiti Art. She also uses it to express her state of mind and to define her own message and to also express her passion for Graffiti.

She also uses the element of color to express her art from in a creative way. She has said that using bright colors promote her main message "Women Rights". She also likes to use ranges of colors in different memorials.
Rubric we had to base the elements off.

Lastly she uses texture to fade and color inside her art forms of Graffiti. Such as thick color fading into thin colors to maybe send or promote a type of message whether it's going from angry to happy.

Cross Country Advice

Are you having trouble with running? Is Cross Country coming up? Well here is some advice/tips for you to take.

First things first you could start by eating healthy foods on a daily basis such as fruits, vegetables and more foods that provide protein and energy. Healthy foods help your body by keeping it healthy, so this is really important if you are going to run a cross country race. Fruits provide a lot of energy and this would be great especially for a run.

Secondly you could start by drinking water. Water is really important and helps you keep hydrated. Keeping hydrated while running is really important especially if you get tired a lot during a run. If you don’t drink water your body will easily get dehydrated. Dehydration can lead and cause to bad headaches or you could get really sick. Your body will send signs as to thirst for water, keeping hydrated is good for your body and can get your body moving, so next time consider drinking water. You don’t want to be running around with a headache.

Also you could start pacing yourself. Pacing yourself is really important even when you haven’t ran as long as the course. You could prepare yourself and get your body use to the course by running similar laps or simply jogging or walking along the course for daily exercise. This is good for your body so you know what to expect on the actual day. Next time you run a race practice and run around the course before the actual run. That would be really useful.

Finally one of the most important things you could do is to sleep. Yes sleeping is really good for your body and you need a lot of rest for your brain. Sleeping can help your body by restarting and growing. While sleeping your body can help your brain with thinking and growing as well. Your brain helps you with everything and also with a lot if everyday tasks . Your brain can also have control on running on the course and knowing which way to go during the run.

Gas Prices - Satire Writing

Hey Bloggers! Today we had to complete our Satire Writing. The definition of Satire is : the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

Image result for gas prices
Here is mine. I am talking about Gas Prices!

Gas Prices

I think gas prices should go up by 20 dollars a litre. Yes! It is so cheap now days for everyone and I think you should be charged 20 dollars for one litre if you have a small car and 200 dollars a litre for big cars or even trucks! It’s so ridiculous how it’s so cheap. 5 dollars for 5 litres are you serious? That is so cheap! It should be more expensive. The government pay way too much money to families living in this area. If you are working at places such as PakNSave or the local dairy or even at an 2 dollar shop the government pays you loads of money so why spend it so little on huge litres of gas. Gas prices need to be more expensive and expensive so people can afford it. 300 dollars for 3 litres is really good! If your travelling on a road trip we pay you more since you have a lot of money to even afford to travel on a road trip. Also people who are illegally filling under the age of 18 should be charged $10. At least $10 since the government allows shops to sell children sweets, drinks and bakery foods every day after school. Also customers owning a car that is really cheap should be charged $100 for buying a cheap car. They get the cheapest gas prices since their cars are so small. They can afford way more than that. Personally I think that people who use diesel such as more expensive gas should be charged less mainly because wealthy people don’t get paid too much since the government had decided that. Well that’s my ideas on gas prices. Ugh! So ridiculous.

Attitude Talk!

Hey Bloggers! Today Team 5 at Pt England School had an attitude talk from a programme called "Attitude".  A guy named Tony came today to talk about a topic and issue we are all going through, here are some points I picked up.
Image result for attitude nz
Attitude Logo

Hair

He talked about hair and how we grow hair in certain places such as your facial hair, hair on your legs and arms, armpits and private areas. Basically you can grow hair anywhere except your palms, your lips and your sole area.

Skin

Another topic he talked about is your skin, around this age our skin starts to develop and sometimes grow what many people may know "Acne". Acne can grow on your skin during puberty and can produce pimples and pores. This can be caused by sweat, oily skin and especially bacteria on your skin so make sure you wash your skin with facial scrubs or maybe you can start using face masks which I use!

Sweating

Sweat is very normal at this age and can start during puberty as well. This can be released from areas on your skin when you are hot and sometimes tired. It is important to always have soapy washes in the shower. You can also apply deodorant like most people so it can block sweat from releasing from your armpits. Sometimes it can smell so make sure you wash!

Girls

He also talked about changes in girls as well. They grow hair, start to produce lower voices as well and more. You can check another girls blog post for more information :D

Boys

Our hormones start to change and we become more mature. We start to gain more muscles and start to grow facial hair such as beards and mustaches. Boys also tend to smell which comes with everyone. Also a lot of awkward words were spoken so you can research about that.

Believe in yourself!
Image result for puberty
Believe in yourself. You can do anything you want and be anything you want. If you work hard and put your mind to it you can do ANYTHING!

Relationships

Did you know that the average relationship timing for people in New Zealand is 16? Wow! You need to take your time, start being friends first. Kick off from there. Don't rush into it too soon. You come to school to learn and have fun, not to get married :D

Parents

Talking to your parents about these topics are really important. They are people who you can trust and have experiences these issues. Even an older sibling could give you advice with puberty. They even may be high schoolers!

Here are some links provided to help you go through it!

Tongan Language Week

Hey Bloggers! If you didn't know last week was Tongan Language Week! On Friday the school celebrated Tongan Language Week by getting some of our own school students to perform some Tongan Dances on the stage.

Girls were wearing Tongan costumes such as mats, headpieces, and necklaces too. The boys were wearing necklaces and were also wearing mats and plastic skirts.

Everyone who was performing got called up to the stage and got into their positions. Firstly a couple of students had said some speeches in Tongan. Then everyone got into their spaces and the music started to play!

The girls hands started twirling and moving. Their head started to move and shake as their hands clapped.

Then it was the boys turn. They had sticks and started dancing.

Exercise Song

Hey Bloggers! Our task was to find a well known song on the internet, get a chunk of lyrics and re-write it in the theme of Exercise for our school topic. I have chosen "Good Time" Enjoy.

Good Time

Whoa oh oh oh,
It's always a good time
Whoa oh oh oh,
It's always a good time
Woke up on the right side of the bed
What's up with this Prince song inside my head?
Hands up if you're down to get down tonight
'Cause it's always a good time
Slept in all my clothes like I didn't care
Hopped into a cab, take me anywhere
I'm in if you're down to get down tonight
'Cause it's always a good time
Good morning and good night
I wake up at twilight
It's gonna be alright
We don't even have to try
It's always a good time
Whoa oh oh oh, whoa oh oh oh,
It's always a good time
Whoa oh oh oh, whoa oh oh oh,
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time

My Version (Song)
Stop Eating Oreos

O O O O O Oreo
These are bad for your body blood flow
It’s covered with lots of co co coa
Everybody stop eating O O O O Oreos

Wake up and eat some healthy breakfast
After that I exercise then take a rest
I’m running hard and my heart has a beating chest
Now im going to become the best
Lots of air and birds in a nest

Everyday you needa exercise
You need to be niiiiice
If you don’t exercise your gonna look like a miiiice

Please stop and don’t ever try
Start easy it’s time to buy

O O O O O Oreo
These are bad for you body blood flow
It’s covered with lots of co co coa
Everybody stop eating O O O O Oreos

Running around it’s time to lose weight
Fitness always good even if your running la-a-ate
Keep eating fruits but don’t ever eat ca-a-ake
Always exercise everyday but don’t ever eat ste-a-ak

Benefits Of Physical Activity

Have you ever wondered what Physical Activity can do to your body? Well I’m here to tell you what fitness, exercise and physical activity can do to your body and the benefits of doing daily activity for your body?

Image result for benefits of fitness
Image Attribution
First of all physical activity can benefit your body by increasing your muscle strength which also can increase your lifespan as a human being. It can also increase flexibility and mobility chances and can reduce pain and stress within your body. These are very important for
your body especially when you are usually eating unhealthy foods and drinks. So make sure you exercise everyday if you are eating these on a daily basis.

Secondly exercise can improve your ability of your body moving and reacting faster. Eating healthy foods, exercising and also staying on a diet can train your body and brain to make more healthy decisions when eating and drinking. Did you know if you didn’t drink water for more than a week your body will suffer from dehydration. Your body cells and organs need water in order to work and help your body grow every day.

Lastly daily fitness and exercise can increase your chances of not getting any bad and deadly diseases. Scientists say that eating unhealthy foods and not drinking enough water everyday can lead to chances of deadly diseases and viruses.

So next time you go for a run or a walk or drink a cup of water think about the good things and the benefits these things can do to your body because one fruit or a 5 minute walk can do so many things to your body!

Kauaeranga Christian Valley Camp - Recount

Term 2 had finally arrived! The smell of smoky petrol flaming up your nose from the buses, Zips and zaps from fully packed bags in the hall, children talking , chattering and gossiping, teachers sorting out groups and others entering into the hall. Everyone had a ginormous smile on their face ready and prepared for the camp to come.

All the boring meetings discussed between the students and teachers had finally finished. I couldn’t wait to hop onto the bus! Our group got ahold of some bags, chucked it in the bottom of the bus and sat on our seats. I dashed to the back of the bus with my friend and we buckled our seatbelts in. We were so pumped to go and didn’t know what to expect.

2 long awaited hours went by… “Brrrrrrrr!” goes the sound of the bus stopping at the entry of the camp. All we saw was large blue coloured letters spelling Kauaeranga Christian Valley Camp. Everyone’s faces glowed up as the scenery of the camp was covered with long bushy green trees. We hopped out onto the rocky gravel excited for what was going to happen next.

The smell of fresh mist from the mountains had been exposed to our body feeling cold and shivering. We unpacked and put everything in our cabins. The next day had begun sun shining on us, breakfast had been eaten and the cold mist had whooshed onto our bodies. We got put into our designated locations for our different camp activities we were going to complete.

We got assigned to Go Karts! At first I was nervous but I questioned to myself is this activity safe? I saw a glimpse of dollar store helmets and metal covered seatbelts sitting next to the Kart. “Ahhhhh!” everyone screamt as they emotion of joy rolled out. Everyone had their turns of fun in the slippery and dirty mud as it splashed along the sides of the cones nearby.

Finally a couple of minutes went by and my name got called “Mitchell! It’s your turn!” Tyson said in a deep voice. I had clicked in my helmet onto my head before so I was well prepared. I walked to the Kart feeling petrified. I had sat down on the squeaky rubber seat, clicked in my cotton metal covered seatbelt and all I could do was worry. “And...Go!” I put my foot down on the gas break and it started moving.

I added more pressure to the gas break and it moved faster. At this moment I knew I could control myself driving this vehicle. I dashed through the coloured cones sliding across the chocolate coloured mud flying by. “Ahhhhhh!!!” I screamt with joy as I happily slid across. “Uh oh!” I realized I was approaching an large obstacle full of mud and dirt.
I can do this I thought to myself!

The rubber wheels hit the mud and the Kart spin around creating mud circles and Go Kart Donuts! Mud splat in the sky and the smell of dirt hit my nose. “Vroommm!” I sped past all of that mud and sped to the coloured cones nearby. I stopped the Go Kart, unbuckled myself out of it and hopped out with a happy face as I happily walked back to the back of the line waiting for my next turn!

Free Writing - Mitchell

In a small town on the edge of a huge island in Hawaii lived 2 best friends. They were named Kalani and Kai. They would hang out everyday writing stories, playing cards and most of all they loved swimming. One day at school they had been asked to finish a science project which was apparently supposed to be a time machine. There teacher had been waiting for it to be done. So the glued up all the broken pieces, attached all the right wires and did everything they could do to complete this. Lunch time came to a conclusion and they were ready to reveal their project. They quietly crept into the classroom as they were prepared for what will happen next.

The teacher finally walked in and asked to see their project. She lifted up the sheet of the 70 inch project and her jaw dropped. The lights flickered in her eyes as she examined the masterpiece. She asked curiously “how does this work?, I mean this is amazing!” they pressed a couple of buttons and were ready to show how it works. The friends walked together and in the blink of an eye they disappeared. The teacher was astonished. She said in a quiet voice “ it worked…”. Meanwhile Kalani and Kai were travelling into the past.  “Ahh” kalani squealed. “Where are we?” she questioned. They were travelling back in time to Ancient Hawai’i.

Bam! They landed in a tropical forest full of hibiscus flowers, coconut and palm trees, lush green grass, bright coloured birds and a flowing river which was connected to a giant waterfall. They also saw Hawaiian women beautifully dancing the Hula Dance. Suddenly a small piece of paper appears in front of them which read “ In order to go back you need to save the Mauna Kea volcano from erupting!

You have 3 days!”“What?, we have to save the people of this island from getting burnt by lava?” she screamt! “Yeah basically!” she replied. They walked over for a good 15 minutes to the nearby village. Kalani was fluent in Hawaiian so she could speak and understand. They walked to the chief and Kalani was ready. Dressed in modern clothes she went inside the chief's house and started talking!

“Aloha oe!” she quietly spoke. In Hawaiian she softly said “We were sent here from the future to warn you about what’s going to happen in the next few days. Mauna Kea will erupt very soon. The village has to flee” she said. The chief replied “How’d you get here?”. They replied “We came from the future so you’ll find out later”.They chief banged drums together with a chant calling all the villagers in for a meeting. In Hawaiian legends it is said if a white dog appears near a volcanic summit that is a warning of the volcano erupting soon enough. Right then and there it appeared and then walked off. The leaders were aware of this legend and had asked everyone to pack and leave.

They packed clothes, food, and everyday supplies. Everyone that night left on the waka and sailed into away from the volcano. BOOM! The sound of the volcano erupting interrupts their travel. The light glow of lava a golden orange colour bursts into the sky making it jaw-dropping for Kalani and Kai. They weren’t use to this. Flowers of fire were exploding everywhere. They travelled to the island Maui. In the morning they ate sweet potato and banana for breakfast with coconut milk. “Thank you very much” Kalani said to the chief and the elders. “Your welcome” they replied in Hawaiian. The time machine appeared in their face and they went back to the future arriving at school.

At school they explained to their teacher what happened and she was very proud.

The End.
