Mitchell - Explanation Draft ( Labour Day )

Have you ever wondered about the day Labour Day? Why do we even celebrate Labour Day? Well today I am going to tell you why Labour Day is celebrated here in our country Aotearoa also known as New Zealand. Well it’s a day people around the world take the day off work. Did you know that New Zealand was one of the first countries in the world to have an 8 hour working day. That’s amazing!

Well every year on the 4th Monday of October, people get to celebrate the rights of working less than at least 12 or 10 hours. Back in the days people did not have the opportunity to work less than 12 hours. Some even had to work for 18 hours. Then one man named Samuel Parnell decided that this was all wrong. He did not think it was right to work more than 8 hours and needed to do something about it. In 1840 he refused to work 8 hours as a carpenter in a shop he worked in.

So Samuel Parnell had worked for 8 hours straight. The normal time the workers would work also known as labour would be for 12 hours. He always went to go explain his decision at court as to why he didn’t work the average hours and it would also affect his pay wage. He didn’t think anything was right. He still worked 8 hours and did not care about what anyone else thought.

Well it was fair enough that New Zealanders were the first workers among the world to claim the right to have an 8 hour working day, but they decided to support his decision of a full 8 hour working day. In Wellington around that time Samuel Parnell visited court and the judge decided for everyone in New Zealand to have the right to work 8 hours.

Well now you know why Labour Day here in New Zealand is celebrated, maybe consider celebrating yourself. If you are a current resident of another country maybe research the dates of Labour Day in your country. What did you do for Labour Day? Have you ever celebrated Labour Day? Now you know the reason of why Labour Day is celebrated. Happy Labour Day to you all!

Hey bloggers! Did you know it's Niuean Language Week! Cheeeeehoooo! Today at the school assembly the Niuean Language Week Dance group performed today! It was amazing. You can check the post I wrote about it down below. Anyways after the dance Mr Jacobsen the Associate Principal had a few instruments displayed on the stage. He also had a few tricks up his sleeve he could use while playing the instruments.

Displayed on the stage were a conch shell, a shofar, a bugle, and finally a trumpet. First he held up a conch shell. The conch shell was based on the history of the Pacific and Polynesian Islands. He blew through the small hole at the end of the conch shell and it started to make an blowing noise! "Mmmm" was the noise it made. It was awesome!

Then he put it down and then everyone happily clapped. He then got out another instrument named the Shofar! It is originated in the Arabian Deserts and the Middle East! It is used to make special calls! He blew it and it sounded like a beautiful masterpiece.

It was a really nice sound he made.

Anyways the next instrument was a bugle. Yes a bugle pronounced - boo-gul like google but boogul. He gripped his hands on the long part and blew hard into the hole. He also played the Anzac Remembrance Song! Then finally he blew the golden trumpet. He also played a few songs on there too!

Celebrating Niue Language Week!

Fakalofa Lahi Atu Bloggers! Hey bloggers! Today in the school hall performed the Niuean Dance group which has roughly been practising their dance for 1 week. Did you know? In New Zealand it is Niuean Language Week! Yes! We are celebrating the culture and language of Niue and Niuean People which is really cool!

Niue Language Week Dance!
The huge group of children who performed today were amazing! They did special and cultural dances and also did a haka in Niuean at the end. The boys were also shouting from the stage too, like fierce warriors. The theme for the week is "Koe Vagahau Niue Koe Atefua, he tagata Niue" which means The Language of Niue is The Heart Of the Niuean People!

The children were wearing and dressed in Niuean costumes and clothes. The girls were wearing a lava-lava, a white t-shirt and a necklace or a lei. The boys were wearing a lava-lava and a niuean sisi which is a white shredded costume you can wear around your neck and your ankles.

Their performance was great! Thanks to Mrs Lagitipu and Ms Teleso for teaching the dance. Also parents too who also helped!

Mitchell - Writing Explanation 2 (How to be organised for school each day)

Hey bloggers! Here is another writing explanation I have written for you! I am going to tell you how to get organised for school each day before school starts.

The night before the school day you should already have got your uniform ready! Your School Shirt, School Shorts, School Jacket, School PE Top, and a new pair of socks to wear for the day. Maybe lay it out on the door of your bedroom. Then with your chromebook if it's really low with battery then you should charge it. Just plug your Chromebook charger into an outlet in your room!

Lunch! I recommend chucking out your lunchbox on the table or bench and start packing your lunch, so it's ready to pop in your bag after you've gotten ready! Make your own sandwich to help mum out. Remember healthy things. Pack some fruit, snacks or even a small box of juice! Now your lunch is ready.

In the morning make your bed. Get your uniform that is ready. If you're going to shower do it for at least 3 - 4 minutes! Pop in your lunchbox, quickly have breakfast. Do your hair, brush your teeth and clean your face and jump out the door. ( Actually jump out the door if you don't want to be in Re-Think) Also re-think is a place you go to @ lunchtime and clean up!

* Quick tips - Wake up @ 7:30 or earlier! Me and my sisters wake up @ 6:00 and get to school @ 7:00. Pretty Early!

Mitchell - Writing Explanation (How To Make A Toasted Sandwich)

Hey bloggers! It's me Mitchell again blogging back to you! Today I am going to tell you - How to make the best cheese and onion toasted sandwich! Now, me and my sisters always make toasted sandwiches frequently because we use and own a Toasted Sandwich Maker!

Here are the ingredients we use! :

1 loaf of fresh bread!
10 slices of Mozzarella Cheese
A handful of shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag of appetising brown onions

1 container of fresh Sunrise Butter

We walk down to the local dairy and buy one loaf of fresh dairy bread, along with some smooth fresh sunrise butter, and a bag of appetising onions. It costs around $6.00! When we get home we get out the sandwich maker! We flick off the little blue thing on the bag of the loaf - which has the expiry date, and chuck the bread on a plate!
We then get out the butter knife from the drawers, open the lid of the butter container and slide the butter knife through the thick butter. (a lot of butter).  Anyways we lay the slices of bread inside the sandwich maker and rip open the bag of onions. We get another plate out, a sharp knife and slice the onion into small cubes. Sometimes my mum helps us too!

We spread it along the slices of buttered bread and put a swirl of aioli sauce on the top to make it even tasty! Finally we add a few slices of sliced cheese from the supermarket! Then we close down the lid of the machine and click the button to start. It starts to sizzle and cook on the grill and you can smell the delicious aroma of the sandwiches. After about 3 minutes it should be ready!

Put all sandwiches on a small - sized plate and then it's ready to eat delicious and warm! "Munch" ! goes my mouth as it digs into the sandwich! I hope you get to make a toasted sandwich!
